Multiple reports have confirmed that a gunman opened fire at a Congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia, this morning. According to reports and eyewitness accounts, the gunman arrived at the field around 7:15 A.M., arrived at the field with a rifle and fired around 50 rounds at bystanders. Louisiana Republican congressman, and House Majority Whip, Rep. Steve Scalise was shot in the hip.
Alabama congressman Mo Brooks was in the on deck circle when he heard shots fired from behind the third base dugout. After a break in the gunfire, Brooks attended to some of the wounded, including fashioning a tourniquet with his belt to a wounded staffer’s leg . Brooks says the shooter resumed his attack and was taken down by congressional security detail as he approached Brooks. It has not been confirmed if the shooter is dead.

The baseball practice was being held ahead of the annual Congressional Charity Baseball Game, which was supposed to be played tomorrow.
