After an afternoon of rumors and false starts, Gordon Hayward has officially announced he is signing with the Boston Celtics, via an article in The Player’s Tribune. Hayward thanked the Utah fans, but said his best chance to win a championship at this stage in his career was to re-unite with his former Butler coach Brad Stevens.
“And now I’ve decided to sign with the Boston Celtics.”
According to Yahoo’s Shams Charania, Hayward has agreed to a four-year/$128 million max deal.

The Hayward signing is huge for Boston GM Danny Ainge, who had increasingly come under fire for moving slowly so far this offseason, including passing on potential trades for Jimmy Butler and Paul George.
Landing the biggest remaining free agent in Hayward should help quell some of that criticism, for now.
