It remains to be seen whether it was a “basketball move”, but news broke this morning that Draymond Green was arrested on a misdemeanor assault charge early Sunday morning in East Lansing, Michigan. Specific details of the arrest have not yet been made public. He will be arraigned on July 20.

Prior to the arrest, Green’s brash personality had only led to trouble on the court. He gained viral notoriety in the NBA Playoffs for his repeated below the belt cheap shots to Thunder Center Steven Adams, which led to an eventual suspension in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
Whether the arrest will have any affect on the Warriors upcoming season remains to be seen, but it’s clear that all eyes will be squarely on the Warriors. Today in The Herd, Colin said he doesn’t agree with those who think the new Kevin Durant Warriors are a lock to be NBA champs.
“I don’t buy into these guarantees they’ll dominate the sport. I don’t think it’s happening.”
Because Green is only facing misdemeanor charges, it seems unlikely that his arrest will have any impact in terms of missing games, but it’s certainly a distraction.
There’s no reason to think that the Green arrest is anything other than an isolated incident, but there are varying degrees of distraction, and the Warriors will have enough outside pressure without having to deal with locker room side shows.
Steven Adams could not been reached for comment.
