When Dana White joined The Herd today, he cleared the air regarding some of the rumors swirling around the, yet to be confirmed, mega fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather. Rumors have the fight taking place in Las Vegas in late September. Colin previously cited his own sources that confirmed the same.
White said he is 100% certain there is no agreement currently in place for the fight. Why is he so certain? The reason is simple. No one from Mayweather’s team has talked to him, and without going through him, there is no fight.
“I don’t know what his (Mayweather) angle is on this thing with Conor McGregor, but, he isn’t fighting McGregor without calling me. It’s not going to happen.”
White added that it would be nearly impossible to fast track a September fight date, even if both sides quickly came to the terms of an agreement. Given Mayweather’s track record of prolonged fight negotiations, it’s even more unlikely.
“Here’s the reality. I haven’t talked to Floyd Mayweather once. If you look at how long and how hard it was to put together the Pacquaio fight done, and that’s the same sport!”
