The #1 offensive tackle in the country, 5-star recruit Jackson Carman from Fairfield, Ohio, shocked many by committing to Clemson, rather than staying home to play for Urban Meyer and Ohio State.
When asked what led to his decision, the 6’6”, 330 pound road grader mentioned that part of Swinney’s recruiting pitch to him was pushing the idea that Urban Meyer’s coaching career was on the back nine. Carman qualified that the pitch wasn’t the only reason he committed to Swinney, but it was a factor.
It probably also didn’t hurt that Dabo has beaten Urban in their last two head-to-head meetings, including a curb stomping in last year’s playoffs.
Recruiting is a dirty business, but no one knows this better than Meyer. Now he’ll just have to sign an obscene ‘Jim Harbaugh lifetime deal’ to put this narrative to rest.
Dabo Swinney told Jackson Carman during his recruitment that Urban Meyer is on the back end of his career in terms of years left. “It wasn’t a major factor, but it was an underlying one,” Carman said.

Here’s a video of Carman bulldozing high school kids. Recruiting is a dirty business. Urban lost this round.
