Any coach in any sport will tell you that you always have to know the score. That lesson was on display when Brown played Bryant in an early season college basketball matchup.
The last-second thriller played out before at least 1000 Brown faithful. Bryant’s Nisre Zouzoua hit a three with 12 seconds left to give Bryant a 90-89 lead. Brown guard Tavon Blackmon then took the ball, drove the length of the floor and sliced through the Bryant defense for a layup to put Brown up 91-90 with 3.8 seconds.
Inexplicably, on the ensuing inbounds pass, Bryant’s Ikenna Ndugba began to dribble the ball to the sideline and tossed the ball in the air in celebration as time expired. He apparently thought that his team had won the game. He was alone in his belief. His stunned teammates looked on in shock at what happened.
The saddest part of the video is where Ndugba goes to high five a teammate and realizes what he just did. It’s just one of those pit in your stomach moments that leaves you feeling awful for the guy.
Oh. well. Keep your head up. It’s college basketball, there are like a million games. It’s not the end of the world.
