Everyone claims to love the underdog, but every time a true Cinderella team makes a deep run in the NCAA Tournament, the viewership numbers always nosedive. Even though people claim to be sick of watching powerhouse schools like Duke, they always watch.
In this year’s NFL Playoffs, the Jacksonville Jaguars are everybody’s favorite underdog after taking down the Steelers at home, and in the echo chamber of social media, many are hoping for the fairytale run to continue with a win over the evil empire Patriots. Colin disagrees, and can’t understand why anyone would want to see Blake Bortles over the greatness of Tom Brady in the Super Bowl.
Even though many claim they would tune in to watch the Jags attempt to complete their improbable season with a championship, it’s a near certainty that Super Bowl viewership would be down significantly compared to an appearance by despised New England, especially among casual fans.
Colin thinks the Jags are a great story, and have a talented young roster, but many publicly claiming they would watch a Blake Bortles/Nick Foles Super Bowl won’t be tuning in at kickoff. The Vikings, at home, trying to take down Tom Brady and Belichick would be a must see event.
