The MMQB‘s Peter King is reporting that, according to his sources, Browns GM John Dorsey is prepared to pass on USC’s Sam Darnold with the #1 overall pick and select Wyoming’s Josh Allen.
Since the NFL Draft order was set, Colin has repeatedly said that Darnold is a no-brainer #1 pick for the Browns. Allen, on the other hand, has a huge upside, but the biggest bust potential of any quarterback in this year’s class. Even though Cleveland picking Allen would be a colossal mistake, it would hardly be a surprising move by the NFL’s most incompetent franchise.
Cleveland taking Allen would also give the Giants the unexpected gift of picking Darnold with the 2nd pick. Like in all sports, successful franchises often feast on the mistakes of lesser franchises to build contenders. This would just be the latest example.
Watch Colin explain why the Browns taking Allen is right out of the bad franchise playbook.
