Paul George made headlines yesterday when news broke that he has informed the Pacers of his intention to leave the franchise in free agency in 2017.
With the NBA Draft approaching on June 22, the Pacers’ best course of action is to make a deal sooner than later, especially if they’re interested in collecting draft picks in a potential trade.
Today, Colin looked at what deals might be out there for Indiana, and sees a Kevin Love for George deal with Cleveland as the best possible option for both teams.
Even though the real possibility exists that George could walk after next season and head to the Lakers in free agency, Colin would still make the deal. Time is ticking for LeBron and Cleveland. They need to go all in right now.
From the Pacers side, there isn’t any other team that could offer a player the caliber of Love.
George gives the LeBron and the Cavs a better chance to beat the Warriors next year, and there is at least some possibility that LeBron could persuade him to stay long term. If George walks, the Cavs would have cap space to recruit another third scorer. It’s a win either way.
If I was Cleveland, I would go get Paul George even if it was only for a year.”
