Colin has said on numerous occasions that he doesn’t understand the media obsession with triple doubles this year. By proclamation, the national sports media has turned the triple double from a unique stat into the holy grail of comparing NBA MVP candidates.
After breaking Oscar Robertson’s triple double record with a 50-point effort against the Nuggets last night, many triple double lovers are calling the MVP race for Russ. Colin is still not sold.
It’s not because he hates Westbrook, Colin has often said that if he had to pay to see one player in the league it would be Westbrook. He’s the most exciting player in the league. Colin is into Westbrook, he’s just not THAT into him for MVP.
Colin values things other than triple doubles, and players like LeBron, Harden, and Kawhi Leonard do those things better. 82 triple doubles in a year isn’t going to change that. It’s just a difference in philosophy, and that’s okay.
I enjoy watching him play, and would buy a ticket, which I can say for almost no other athlete. I prefer some other guys over him who are more efficient, who are on teams that win more, who don’t seem to be trying to win it quite as much.”
