It only happens once or twice each NFL season. Vegas releases a betting line so enticing it looks like it must be a mistake. 4-4 Pittsburgh giving 2.5 points at home against 7-1 Dallas this weekend is one of those games.
At first glance, Dallas getting points against struggling Pittsburgh looks like a gift. The Steelers just dropped their third straight, and Big Ben is only one game removed from returning from a knee injury. Meanwhile, Dallas is steamrolling through the NFL with a 7-1 record. So, what gives with the line?
Today in the Herd, Colin said the public is heavy on the Cowboys, which means the smart money is headed in the other direction. It’s a trap.
“Dallas is getting 90% of the consumers’ money. Whenever that number goes above 80, wiseguys go the other way. There may not be another game this year where more people have bet on one side.”
Vegas insiders see the game is a must win home game for Big Ben and the Steelers, who should be able to exploit an injured Dallas secondary, which has allowed its last four opponents to complete over 70% of their passes.
The sharps are on Pittsburgh, the squares are gobbling up the Cowboys. Don’t be a mark, follow the smart money, and thank Uncle Colin.
