Seth Wickersham’s bombshell piece on the Patriots and the triumvirate of Belichick, Brady and Kraft is the sports equivalent of Fire and Fury, dishing on all of the palace intrigue and power struggles within the normally secretive Patriots organization. The article largely confirmed Colin’s theory that Belichick wanted to keep Garoppolo and trade Brady, but was ultimately overruled by Robert Kraft, who sided with the 40-year-old QB.
With Belichick’s long term future in New England highly in doubt, Colin speculated that Belichick will likely retire, but if he doesn’t, the one landing spot that would stick it to Robert Kraft would be the Giants.
Belichick respects the ownership, has pieces to engineer a quick turnaround with a team that won 11 games in 2016, has the second pick in the draft, and it’s the one franchise that has had Kraft’s number during his team’s historic run. There’s also Boston’s deep insecurity about New York being the big brother of the East Coast.
All that would be left in New England would be a 41-year old Brady and Kraft, and the reality that the end of everything is right around the corner.
Watch Colin explain why Belichick returning to the Giants would be the perfect next chapter to today’s drama:
