The Ringer founder Bill Simmons joined The Herd today for the first time in a while to discuss the avalanche of NBA news and rumors swirling before the Draft.
Simmons didn’t waste any time going after Colin for his take that LeBron is more likely to go to the Clippers than the Lakers if he leaves Cleveland for the West coast.
He thinks if LeBron bolts, it’ll be to the Lakers. He’s sold on the new management structure in place with Rob Pelinka and Magic Johnson, and the prestige of the Lakers franchise would be the only L.A. franchise befitting of James stature.
Colin thinks Bill is nuts and the Lakers are still a mess.
Bill thinks if LeBron showed up, the Lakers have enough assets to flip for surrounding talent and more stars. Colin thinks the Lakers roster is a bunch of C+/B- talent, and that isn’t enough to parlay into other stars. So, agree to disagree.
It’s gonna be the Lakers. It’s gonna happen.” – Bill Simmons
In terms of his beloved Celtics, Simmons believes landing Utah forward Gordon Hayward in free agency and drafting Duke’s Jayson Tatum are the moves to make in the short term, while they continue their never ending search to package their overflowing assets for an actual star.
Listen to Colin and Bill go at it. Just like riding a bike:
Here’s Colin explaining why he thinks LeBron would be a Clipper before a Laker:
