Longtime L.A. times columnist Bill Plaschke joined The Herd today. He disagreed with Colin that the Lakers should trade the second pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.
Colin has been adamant that the Lakers quickest path to improvement is to trade their pick for either a proven veteran star, or for more draft picks. Plaschke disagreed.
“Laker fans have put up with this for three years. They’ll put up with this for a couple more years if they think they can grow their own star. This is a team, a franchise, that has gone from Magic to Kobe. They’re waiting for the next one to come.”
Plaschke also disagreed with Colin’s assessment that LSU’s Ben Simmons (the likely #1 pick) is the only potential superstar in the upcoming draft. He thinks Duke’s Brandon Ingram can have an impact for the Lakers.
“I think Brandon Ingram is an incredible talent. He can be an incredible talent. I think Laker fans would rather know they have a cornerstone and a chance for championships in the future, than try to get it done right now.”
Plaschke thinks the weary Laker fan base is more desperate for hope than a small, immediate, increase in the win column.
