50 are dead, and 53 were injured in the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. The shooting occurred at the Orlando gay nightclub “Pulse”, as it closed around 2 am, Sunday. Authorities allege, 29 – year old Omar Mateen, of Port St. Lucie, entered the club and opened fire with a handgun and semi automatic assault weapon. He was killed when police raided the club in an effort to save additional hostages.

In terms of casualties, the Orlando shooting is the worst in U.S. history. Authorities continue to gather information to determine Mateen’s motive. Specifically, why did he target a gay nightclub? And if he has ties to a terrorist organization.
Reporter Pete WIlliams, of NBC News, has reported that the shooter called 911 prior to the shooting and pledged his allegiance to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the head of ISIS.

Florida Governor Rick Scott addressed the media regarding the tragedy. He called the shooting an “act of terrorism”, and was visibly emotional.

President Obama addressed the nation this afternoon and called for prayers for the survivors and families of the deceased. He called the shooting, “an act of terror and hate.”
He added, the FBI is leading the investigation of the crime scene, and investigating it as an “act of terrorism”.

The world is in mourning and shock, as more details are uncovered. The horrific shooting comes just one day after “Voice” contestant Christina Grimmie was shot and killed in Orlando, while signing autographs after her concert.
